Visual Story Network

Here is our description for the series:

one person… one story… one great God

Each person has a story to tell; each person that we pass on the street is more complex than the best-written character in literature. And yet, God somehow finds a way to reach each person in the deepest places of their heart. Though God is unchanging, each of us relate to Him in a slightly different way, making Him more dynamic than we could ever imagine. Studio Re: seeks to highlight this by telling the stories of His Japanese children. In our ongoing series of short films called My Story, we loan professional equipment to ordinary Christians for one week to allow them to record their stories. Then our team of experienced filmmakers polishes the footage into high-quality short films that will be made available to churches and to the general public through online video sites and on DVD. Through hearing other peoples’ stories, we will help Japanese people discover their own, and build up the church in Japan.

Questions:
1. What do you think of the basic idea?

2. Which camera would work well for this?

Paul,
This is a good idea. 8 years ago I heard someone else mention doing this in Africa with children, but nothing ever came of it. The way you describe it connecting to the deepest places in their heart is fantastic. For a camera, I'd recommend something compact, good audio, 3CCD if possible and HDV. The Canon HV-20 is fantastic in auto with good light, but in low light it does not fare very well.

Thanks Corban! I really appreciate your response. We plan to do our first shoot, with a camera one of our team members owns, in the next week or so. Assuming that our test shoot "works" then we will consider purchasing the HV-20.

Is it the case that you think, for this kind of use, it is preferable to us a Hard Drive equipped camera rather than Mini DV tapes? If so, can you tell me why you think that?

Thanks again. I checked out your two web sites and you do nice work!

Warmly, Paul
