Cell Phone Access to Bible Stories in 8 Languages for Northern India

Yesterday, I completed publishing these stories translated by the New India Evangelistic Association. See www.niea.mobi

I am looking for creative ways to let people in Northern India know that they can get these Bible stories on their cell phones. I would appreciate any ideas, especially ideas that have been tried and proven to be successful. Making the episodes available is only the beginning. Having people know about them and listen to them is the next big step.

Very cool; will have to point to this at MMM; thanks for creating and sharing.
Stephen,

I just checked these out (thanks to Antoine's tweet). One thought: search "India" in the members tab here at VSN and then send a note to each of them. Also, check out the Mobile Ministry Media group discussions here if you haven't already.

Hi,

Can you give me more information about the contents you like to publish on phones and the brands that are common in India?
We already produced Bibles for Mobile phones (Arabic and English) and I'm interested in using monitors and LCDs as medium for reaching people.

I have already published to www.niea.mobi and to www.apad.mobi

Eventually, my mobile analytics will return to me the brand names of all phones that go to our site. The Nokia 6100 and E71 have hit the site so far. You can get this same info for free for your bibles from http://analytics.admob.com

The first URL has translations of 24 to 30 3-5 minute stories from the bible in 8 languages. The second has currently 30 12-minute teachings from the book of proverbs in English taken from our radio program A Proverb a Day.

I published everything at 24 bit 11,000 hz to reduce download time to the phones.

I am seeking creative ways to let the people know that this material is available. I would be happy to link your bibles to my pages if you desire,

I am heading to India Saturday for a month. We and the people we are visiting will be passing out small stickers that say www.niea.mobi and www.apad.mobi. Our hope is that the curious will go to the sites and then tell others.

I am looking for similar and/or altogether new strategies to let people know about the availability of these materials.

If you would like solar powered digital displays in a handy backpack, go to http://renewoutreach.com They have great stuff.
I'm based in India and I'd be glad to help you reach especially the unreached people & youth in India. I think if we could share the gospel to the people of India through cell phone - it would be effective and faster too.

Let me know some concrete steps of how you plan to do and the message should be right & appealing to them! Not, all of the phone users have access to MMS but SMS is available in all the phone models. MMS could be used to reach out to the youth and English being one of the major languages in India among the educated youth - you could use English materials too.
Your offer to partner with us is welcomed. The first step is to discover what we have to offer. Please listen to a few of the episodes that are available. You can seen transcripts for all 30 programs at http://aproverbaday.org. Our materials is fairly serious bible study presented in a digestible format. The Lord perfected the teachings during 30 years of ministry in jails and prisons. He then released it into a radio program format that has been well received in several countries.

I am hoping to find people who will tell their social networks about the www.apad.mobi site. I will be adding some music to it when I return from India.

You can see from my other posts that I am interested in knowing more technically about making audio available to the SMS audiences. If you know anyone that knows how to do this, I am eager to learn.

We will be in Chennai this Monday, then in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Purnia and New Delhi during March. If it is possible to see each other, let me know.
As Clyde suggests to look into those in the VSN who are associated with India I would not do anything in India until research is undertaking as to who is doing what there already. The IMB has extensive work, SIU (Scriptures in Use) and the other major Orality training and missions group. You should contact all of those above either through the International Orality Network or through their independent web sites or contact points. www.oralstrategies.com is another excellent ref. point.
I am working with a group of media missionaries creating short Biblical stories that would be good for this mobile use and it would be good for our group to open up to that discussion. We are in more than 20 languages partnering with locals or missionaries in the various countries. I think we've got to look at mobile as the next "broadcast" especially in developing countries, so I'm very interested in this discussion.
I attended the Orality Conference annual meeting last fall. It motivated me to do what we have done.
When I return from India in early April, I will be happy to share what I have learned here...
I am willing to help you. Tell me more about the languages and the locations you want to serve.
I have found this to be a difficult issue. I have spent way too many hours re-encoding for various devices. If you have money to apply to it, you can purchase a service from http://www.limelightnetworks.com/. For about $1200 a month, they supply disk storage and a server process that autodetects the device that is asking for content. Once it knows the device, they re-encode the file "on-the-fly" in real time to match the memory and screen size constraints of the device

I would like to think that the "Mobile Media Content Delivery Service" that I started a discussion concerning could evolve into a group that does bulk purchasing of this kind service for several ministries, escpecially the ones that can not afford the $1200 a month overhead.
