Visual Story Network

Hi, my name is Eric Jackson. I graduated last year from The Art Institute, studied DIgital Photography, then Graphic Design. Now that I'm out of school, I don't have the design software and photo equipment, not only to freelance, but to continue creating my own projects.

The software and equipment is very expensive to purchase. Is it possible to have fund raisers or apply for grants in order to buy what I need? Ultimately, I want to solidify my own studio.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Eric,

My quick $.02.  If you are a non-profit, you are better positioned to raise funds for projects (though in this economy even that can be difficult).

If you are a for-profit, unless you have a friend or family member willing to help you capitalize, you are probably going to have to boot-strap.   You'll probably have to buy used equipment and software to get started.  Work hard to build a name and client base and then you can think about upgrading (unless you're willing to pay by credit, but be careful with that one).

Not sure there is much new here, but I'm not aware of any funding sources or grants.

Grace,

Clyde
