Artist minus spritual discipline = poor communication

Are we so busy focusing on what we “do” that we forget who we are called to “be”? In this particular blog my premise is: if you’re an artist then you are a teacher by default. You are espousing something to someone each time your film plays.

In order to teach others, or espouse wisdom, you must first start with a solid foundation. I would contend that a solid foundation starts with discipline.

Why disciplines?

Because we can’t wait until the exact moment that we face… Continue

What am I waiting for?

[Confessions of a Christian Filmmaker]

As a filmmaker I'm always looking to push myself farther, learn new techniques, study new ideas, and find new ways to tell good stories. I must admit, contrary to my film study habits my Christian walk looks more like "just getting by". Don't get me wrong, I put major value on the disciplines: I study God's word, I pray, I serve others, and I attend and serve in a local church. Those things however should be the means to two important ends: my… Continue

Tech: Good Servant, Poor Master

Technology has come into all of our lives, regardless of what we do. Almost every trade has been effected by advancements in the tech arena. My father-in-law is a plumber and even his industry has a crazy new machine that dig trenches and lays pipe all by itself - and when it bends over you can see it’s… well, no not really. I’ve recently held my nose and jumped head first into every technical tool there is in this web 2.0 world. I signed up on Facebook and Twitter. I downloaded FLOCK and… Continue

Is making a film enough?

Veracity has been trying to get a larger film made recently. In doing more to “network” and find the team to take the film to completion, I’ve had this nagging question pop up - “Is making a film enough?”

Why am I asking this question and what does it mean? Well, the question comes as a response. A response to people I meet. Most of them are Christians and they’re very eager to “get something made.” Which is fine I guess, but what’s the end goal? Are we making a film just to be in… Continue

Hahaha yeah Charlie, it's funny how some people really don't like Cali all that much. For me it's a love hate relationship, but as far as location and weather, you can't beat it in my opinion. But yeah, I have learned to just appreciate where one is, never knowing what may come next. Good words man. No, was born and raised in sweet ole USA. Have been coming to Germany on and off since 2004. Moved over here semi-permantly last year. ( am married to a German) Just hanging out.. and seeing what God wants next
cheers from Germany

Thanks Charlie. I think watching everyone's video on storytelling has already been beneficial to me! I'm sure others are being helped by them as well. Have a great day!

Hey Charlie! I just watched your 3 Simple Steps for telling a good story. Excellent! Great production value and great advice that's practical in both the spiritual and physical arenas. God bless.
