Japan Disaster Zone Press Tour, Feb 29 - March 3, 2012

Since shortly after the earthquake on March 11, 2011 I have been working with Tokyo based CRASH Japan. I am in charge of the press/media department.  www.crashjapan.org

Tokyo based CRASH Japan staff and volunteers have been responding to the disaster in Japan by sending volunteers and working closely with local churches.

We have worked with several mainstream and church related news outlets, including: Nikkei News, CBN, and World Magazine. We would be happy to serve you and your organization as well.

Anticipated stops (subject to change):

  • The new site of “The Exodus Church” in Fukushima Ken

  • Sea Side Chapel in Sendai.

  • Churches in Fukushima and in other prefectures.

  • Temporary housing units

  • A CRASH Japan base

  • Volunteer work sites

  • The devastated city of Ishinomaki.

  • Franklin Graham celebration of Hope in Sendai.

Who you will meet: 

  • Local pastors

  • Japanese church leaders

  • Volunteers

  • Disaster relief organizational leaders and staff

  • Missionaries

Itinerary (dates are set but other details are subject to change):

  • Feb. 29: Early AM meet at CRASH HQ in Tokyo, drive to cities of Iwaki & Fukushima, stay in hotel

  • March 1st: Drive to Ichinoseki, stay at CRASH Japan base there, meet volunteers, visit work sites, meet local people.

  • March 2nd: Drive to Sendai, visit work sites, see Ishinomaki, see large temporary housing area, end day at opening of Franklin Graham Celebration

  • March 3rd: CRASH staff will drive back to Tokyo. Tour participants will have the option of staying in Sendai, flying out of Sendai, taking a train directly to Narita, or returning with us to Tokyo.

CRASH Japan will provide:

  • Transportation within Japan by van from Tokyo to Ichinoseki and back to Tokyo

  • Translation support and cultural guidance

  • One or more wifi hot spots

  • Safety information & guidance

  • Introductions

  • Several meals

  • One night housing free of charge (at one of our bases, if we can get everyone in)

What we expect of participants: 

  • Sensitivity to the needs and privacy of survivors

  • Payment for hotel stays (anticipate two of them)

  • Be on time.

  • Commit to the trip at least two weeks before departure, I anticipate the tour will fill up fast so register very soon if you want to be part of it.
