More Strong Evidence of the Power of Story

Recently I came on these videos.

Note that the movie the Sound of Music came out in 1965. it is the most popular musical of all time. It is beloved of people all over the world, 

How can such a story resonate with those of such different cultures and backgrounds?

The small town where it was filmed gets 300 thousand visitors a year from various countries. What does that say and imply?

The movie had been a popular stage play before Julie Andrews took the role. And there was a German movie too. Those were based on a book.
