Nancy and Steve were married for 45 years. Steve was the Alaska bush pilot, HP computer reseller and the inventor of the "chicken coop on wheels." Nancy was the willing follower, schoolteacher and mother of their eight children. Steve was one of the first guys in the world to envision how mobile phones could be used to reach people with little access to the Gospel.
He found the Visual Story Network on the Internet in 2010, and was one of the first ten people to get involved in the Mobile Ministry Forum (today 500 leaders and missionaries participate). Steve and Nancy figured out how to put Bibles, videos and teaching material onto storage cards for phones and how to distribute thousands in India and Latin America by training pastors.
When we held our first Mobile Ministry gathering in 2010, Steve and Nancy hosted 13 of us in their Ringold, Virginia home for three days. When I first met Steve, he was losing the ability to breathe on his own because of pulmonary fibrosis. He eventually had two lung transplant surgeries, but suffered for nine months before God called him home in 2012. Nancy's adult daughters have helped her carry the torch of using mobile phones for the Gospel by launching www.bibletransmission.com to make Bibles available to everyone's mobile device. At age 72, Nancy is showing no signs of slowing down!
We want to unleash thousands more like Nancy. That's why we just launched "Your Phone - God's Glory" a new training guide and strategy. This short story follows Sarah and José who are preparing for a short-term mission trip. Their friend Ravi shows them how to load their mobile phones with videos and Bibles in 1000 different languages. This was developed by leaders from seven organizations, including Nancy!
