We had the honour of helping TearFund create a new video piece to tell the story of forgotten children around the world.
This piece focused on street orphans with disabilities in Phnom Phen, Cambodia and the work TearFund is supporting to enable foster Christian Cambodian foster families to provide, care, food, education and therapy for these children. http://tearfund.ie
The video was shot by a wonderful cameraman named Nick Lear from London and then brought to us to turn into a story. With direction from TearFund Ireland's Reuben Coulter, we saw the piece come to life.
Audio on the fly is always a challenge, especially when multiple languages and difficult surroundings are the setting. I knew that the music would make or break the audio, and I didn't want it to distract from the already powerful story being told.
A song from the past popped into my mind as I watched the raw footage. With a short deadline, how would we ever get permission from none other than Pat Metheny. Somehow in three days time, we were able to contact his office and obtain their gracious permission to use this beautifully textured Cambodian hymn sung by children and accompanied by traditional instruments with a Pat Metheny twist. ...Miracles only a producer can appreciate.
