Thanks Brian & Clyde for posting this. I'm so looking forward to seeing & supporting Captive.

Here's a great writeup from the LA Times about "grittier, non-preachy" redemptive films like Captive.

It notes that many Christians are becoming quite tired with "Christian" films. Since when did a noun become an adjective? Can we drop the Christian adjective and just create great stories that speak for themselves?

I am so tired of the church curriculum films filled with bad theology and poor production values that preach to the choir "because we know who our audience is." When films like War Room do well in the box office, there seems to be a spiritual backslapping that wreaks of pride among some Christians that postures "See, aren't we doing well! Take that Hollywood!"

What about humbly improving our craft and artistry instead of getting all puffed up over pure tripe?

I'm so looking forward to Captive.  Hopefully, it will captivate all of us to take our storytelling, filmmaking and mission more seriously.

I hope you will be able to see Captive at a theater near you when it opens nationwide on September 18.  Here is a theater finder where you can discover if it is playing near you, and the official website for other resources.  Clyde Taber and I will be attending a special "Night of Purpose" early screening at the Irvine Spectrum on Thursday, September 17 at 8 p.m. You can find tickets on Fandango for that screening.
